September 10th, 2025 Lights of Hope
Let’s light up the World!
September 10, 2025 marks Suicide Prevention Day. This global observance, established by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), aims to raise awareness that suicide is preventable and to mobilize action to reduce its prevalence. The theme for World Suicide Prevention Day from 2024 to 2026 is “Changing the Narrative on Suicide.” This theme emphasizes the importance of open and honest discussions about mental health and suicide to reduce stigma and promote understanding and support for those who are struggling.
Key messages and actions
- Raise awareness: Learn about the warning signs of suicide and risk factors, and share reliable information and resources with others.
- Reduce stigma: Talk openly and honestly about suicide to create a culture of acceptance and support, where individuals feel comfortable seeking help.
- Support those in need: Reach out to friends, family, or colleagues who may be struggling with suicidal thoughts, listen without judgment, and encourage them to seek professional help.
- Advocate for change: Support policies and legislation that prioritize mental health, increase access to care, and provide resources for those in need.
- Participate in events: Look for and join local or online events, workshops, or campaigns that raise awareness and promote suicide prevention on September 10th and throughout September, which is National Suicide Prevention Month.
By working together, individuals, communities, organizations, and governments can make a difference in preventing suicide and creating a world where everyone feels valued and supported.
